De-Alert Missiles

De-alerting Nuclear Weapons. The United States and Russia have almost 5,000 missiles pointed at each other on full alert, a situation which could result in accidental annihilation of both countries, particularly in view of Russia’s diminished resources.  An agreement on de-alerting these weapons needs to be worked out immediately.

The U.S. should make a “No First Use” Declaration. The United States and the other nuclear powers need to endorse a “no first use” declaration which would go a considerable distance in easing international tensions.    This treaty would also be easily verifiable-- thus, a good example for  later, multilateral treaties.
